Point of Departure was an exhibit at the Saco Museum showcasing work in a variety of media that I produced either during a residency at Great Spruce Head Island or six months later. While at the residency, I produced the
drawings and the collages (minus the encaustic) that you see here and the photographs.
Six months later, I started the encaustic paintings.
Over this period, my impressions, observations, and emotional responses had time to percolate and develop into the personal visual vocabulary seen in the subsequent paintings. With this distancing, the characteristics or qualities I observed become free of the literal object and allow for abstraction. But in these paintings, I still sense the energy and vitality of Great Spruce Head Island and my rich experience there. I am thankful for having this
experience and am certain that it will continue to influence my artwork for a very long time.”
Please see the attached pages for individual images of the torso drawings and encaustic on paper.
