"Receding Fog" mixed media encaustic, 24 x 8 each.

Point of Departure was an exhibit at the Saco Museum showcasing work in a variety of media that I produced either during a residency at Great Spruce Head Island or six months later at my studio. While at the residency, I produced the drawings, collages, and photographs that you see here.
Six months later, I started the encaustic paintings. Over this period, my impressions, observations, and emotional responses had time to percolate and develop into the personal visual vocabulary seen in the subsequent paintings.  With this distancing, the characteristics or qualities I observed become free of the literal object and allow for abstraction.  Yet these paintings still reflect the energy and vitality of Great Spruce Head Island and my rich experience there.  I am thankful for having this experience and am certain that it will continue to influence my artwork for a very long time.”
